WHY I LOVE EUROPE

Every day, to signal that they're kicking us out, the staff at the refuge hostel blast music really loud. I already like their choices. Yesterday was Neil Young. Before that, Elvis Costello (You can imagine where this is heading already)

Guess what was playing today?

Tom Waits! I nearly started screaming when I heard Singapore come on. I didn't bring enough (30 is not nearly enough) so I just can't bear to leave at this moment. And to have them play my favorite CD? (I'm currently grooving along to Jockey full of Bourbon. This is such a dream!)

I love Europe!

-------------------------------
Location: Copenhagen, Denmark (last day)
Wearing: Jeans, shirt, jacket
Day's Activities: Listen to Waits! (I just got up. I think the plan for today is to walk to the main train station across town, then over to Christiana)
Thing you miss: All my Waits CDs. They're absolutly perfect for traveling.

Tom Waits, eh? :-) You'll have to give me the name of that place...

I'm totally born on the wrong side of the atlantic. All my Norweigen relatives love him too. And Sarah, if you see this, I have lyric trivia for you. What song was the line 'I've never felt more alive and alone' from? I've had it in my head for weeks, and it's driving me nuts that I can't remember it. Anyway, back to the whole train/bus/train/train thing. See ya'll later!

I've been thinking about it all day and I can't come up with that song... got any other hints about it (new song, old song, etc)? You must have the words not quite right... I googled and googled and came up empty-handed.

Hmm. It could be 'alive or alone' instead. It's slower, and I *think* it's one of the newer ones. It's a weeper, I think, possibly from Alice? I'm not sure. Glad that my Waits trivia isn't slipping, it's just that I'm dense. Don't worry about it, I'll just listen to all the CDs when I get back to find out which one. Such torture! ;-)

Ooh, I got it, I got it... you're right, it's "alive or alone."

Take It With Me

Phone's off the hook; no one knows where we are
It's a long time since I drank champagne
The ocean is blue, as blue as your eyes
I'm gonna take it with me when I go

Old long since gone - now way back when
We lived in Coney Island
Ain't no good thing ever dies
I'm gonna take it with me when I go

Far far away a train whistle blows
Wherever you're going, wherever you've been
Waving good bye at the end of the day
You're up and you're over, and you're far away

Always for you, and forever yours
It felt just like the old days
We fell asleep on Beulah's porch
I'm gonna take it with me when I go

All broken down by the side of the road
I was never more alive or alone
I've worn the faces off all the cards
I'm gonna take it with me when I go

Children are playing at the end of the day
Strangers are singing on our lawn
It's got to be more than flesh and bone
All that you've loved is all you own

In a land there's a town
And in that town there's a house
And in that house there's a woman
And in that woman, there's a heart I love
I'm gonna take it with me when I go
I'm gonna take it with me when I go

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!! I can't believe I didn't recognize it. No wonder it was stuck in my head, since 'Take it with me' is such a perfect travel song. I spent my morning listening to Blood Money, but it's not quite the same.
